Personal:Lauriece Jenkins was the first female drafted into the women's professional ranks from an HBCU after she completed her outstanding career at Winston-Salem State University. The New Jersey Gems selected her in the fourth round of the women's professional basketball draft in 1980. She lettered in basketball each of her four years as a Lady Ram. She was an All-CIAA selection (1979), a Black College All-America, and an All-Tournament selection of the CIAA and the Georgia Invitational Tournaments. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education from Winston-Salem State University in 1980.
