Personal:Russell Eugene Murphy is honored as an outstanding football player. He was captain of the 1954 football team at Winston-Salem Teachers College. He was named Most Valuable Player in 1954. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. He received a Master of Science Degree in Elementary Education and a Master of Arts Degree in Education Supervision and Safety from North Carolina A & T State University. He served as an assistant football coach at Winston-Salem Teachers College. He has also worked as a teacher and coach at Central High School and Asheboro Middle School in Asheboro, North Carolina. He is a member of the Asheboro High School Hall of Fame. He has received numerous awards for his outstanding leadership and development of young people throughout the state of North Carolina.
