Personal: The 2007-08 season will mark Bethea's third year as a member of the WSSU coaching staff and will mark his first year as the Head Coach with the Winston-Salem State University men's golf team after completing two seasons as the head assistant coach. A scratch golfer, Bethea has been golfing for nearly five decades. He will work with the men's golf team helping to work on swing fundamentals and course management. He is a native of Winston-Salem, NC and is a graduate of Atkins High School. He is a graduate of Winslm College, with a two-year degree in Business Administration. He is currently the president of the Winston Lake Senior Golf Association, a title that he has held for ten years. He is also a member and past president of the Phalanx Fraternity. He spent 12 years with the Vic Johnson Golf Clinic. Despite being 6'3" and weighing only 205 pounds, Coach Bethea is nicknamed "Heavy".
