ORANGEBURG, S.C. - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams basketball team closed out the 2007-08 season with a 64-58 victory over the South Carolina State University Lady Bulldogs.  The following are a list of assembled bullet-point information pieces about the WSSU women's basketball team following the completion of their 2007-08 season.

 

  • The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams basketball team closes out the season with an overall record of 3-25.

 

  • The WSSU women's basketball team posted a 2-11 record at home, a 1-12 mark on the road and an 0-2 mark at neutral site venues this season.

 

  • For the second consecutive season, and for both seasons under current head coach Dee Stokes, the Lady Rams have concluded the season with a victory.  In 2006-07 the Lady Rams closed the season with an 80-60 over Savannah State.  This season WSSU ended the year with a 64-58 win over South Carolina State.

 

  • Lady Rams' head women's basketball coach Dee Stokes completes her second full season at WSSU and has now compiled a career mark at WSSU of 11-46 overall. 

 

  • Coach Stokes led the Lady Rams to an 8-21 record in 2006-07 and a 3-25 mark in 2007-08.

 

  • The Lady Rams' longest losing streak of the season was a 12-game skid, a season-opening 12-game losing streak that was snapped on Jan. 19, 2008.

 

  • None of the Lady Rams' three victories came consecutively as WSSU was winless in November and December and won one game each in the months of January, February and March.

 

  • The Lady Rams scored a total of 1,277 points on the season, 600 in the first half and 677 in the second half.  Opponents scored 953 points in the first half and 950 points in the second half for a total of 1,903 points scored.

 

  • WSSU shot 30.4 percent from the field in 2007-08 as they converted on 440 of their 1,448 field goal attempts.  Opponents connected on 702 of their 1,703 shot attempts for a shooting percentage of 41.2 percent.

 

  • The Lady Rams were outrebounded by 9.6 boards per game in 2007-08.  WSSU averaged 34.2 rebounds per contest while opponents pulled down an average of 43.8 rebounds per game.

 

  • WSSU averaged 24.3 turnovers per contest and forced opponents to commit 28.9 turnovers per contest as WSSU averaged 5.4 more turnovers per game than their opponents.

 

  • The Lady Rams closed the season averaging 45.6 points per game.  The Lady Rams allowed opponents to scored 68.0 points per game for a scoring deficit of 22.4 points per contest.

 

  • The Lady Rams closed the season with a total attendance of 9,109 persons for an average per-game attendance of 701 fans per contest.

 

  • The Lady Rams closed the season with their highest scoring game of the year, a 64 point effort at South Carolina State.  That 64 opoint scoring output bests WSSU's previous high effort of 63 points versus Howard University.

 

  • WSSU was led in scoring by Vontisha Woods who averaged 9.2 points per contest.

 

  • WSSU was led in rebounding by Vontisha Woods who led the Lady Rams with 8.3 rebounds per game.

 

  • In addition to leading the Lady Rams in scoring and rebounding, Woods led the Lady Rams in shooting as she hit 42.1 percent of her shots from the field and was the only WSSU player to shoot better than 40 percent.

 

  • Rene Rector led the Lady Rams in made three-point field goals as she hit 38 threes on the season.  Rector hit 38 of her 144 three-pointers attempted for a three-point shooting percentage of 26.4 percent.

 

  • Rene Rector turned in the largest scoring output of the year with 24 points versus Howard University on January 19, 2008 in WSSU's first win of the season.

 

  • Vontisha Woods turned in the three highest rebounding games of the season as she tallied a career-high and team season-high 14 rebounds on three occasions (3/03, 2/25, and 1/19).

 

  • Rene Rector tallied a season-high and team-season high nine assists at North Carolina A&T on January 26.
