Lady Rams Take 6-1 Loss at Gardner Webb

March 13, 2008

Box Score

BOILING SPRINGS, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (9-8) struggled to find hits in a 6-1 loss to the Gardner Webb Runnin' Bulldogs (8-11), Wednesday afternoon. As a team, the Lady Rams totaled just four hits in the game, plating just one run in the outing.

The Lady Rams got off to a strong start in the game with first inning score in the game. It was an RBI hit by WSSU freshman infielder Kayla Woodbury that gave the Lady Rams the early 1-0 lead. The squad was not able to keep things going, however, as the host team would go on to rattle off six unanswered runs in the game. The Lady Rams allowed a pair of three-run innings in the loss with Gardner Webb doing the damage in the first and fifth inning.

WSSU junior pitcher Amber Shore (5-3) took the loss from the circle pitching all six innings with five strikeouts and eight hits allowed. WSSU freshman infielder Kayla Woodbury led the way for the team with two hits in four plate appearances. She added an RBI and a double in the loss.

The same two teams would face off once again in game two of the doubleheader immediately following game one.
