Winston-Salem, NC - Rolling...that is what the Lady Rams' softball team is doing as of late, and that trend continued on Saturday afternoon at Southpark Field in Winston-Salem, NC as the Lady Rams won their seventh straight game by defeating the visiting Lady Panthers of Virginia Union University by the score of 11-3 in the first game of a CIAA softball doubleheader.
The Lady Rams wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning as Toyia Vaughn smacked a single with the bases loaded that drove in three runs and gave WSSU an early 3-0 lead. She would then score what ultimately amounted to the game's winning run only three pitches later on a passed ball.
WSSU would get four runs on a pair of hits in the inning, as they were the beneficiaries of a passed ball and an error in the frame, and never looked back as they cruised to an easy 11-3 victory.
The Lady Rams added two more runs in the second inning, two in the fourth and three in the third to earn the win.
Winning her 10th game of the season was WSSU starting pitcher Heather Davis who allowed only three runs on five hits in the contest while striking out five batters. Saddled with the loss was Virginia Union's James who lost her sixth game of the season, falling to 1-6 in the process.
With the victory, the Lady Rams improve to 10-6 overall and remain flawless at 7-0 in the CIAA (2-0 Western Division). The Lady Panthers fall to 1-10 overall and 1-6 in the CIAA with the loss.
The two teams return to action at 2:00 pm in the second game of a CIAA league doubleheader.
