WSSU Women's Tennis Defeated By East Carolina Pirates, 7-0

GREENVILLE, NC - The Winston-Salem State University women's tennis team dropped their fifth consecutive match on Wednesday evening in Greenville, NC as they fell in defeat to the undefeated Lady Pirates of East Carolina University by the score of 7-0.

The Lady Pirates allowed only five points to the Lady Rams throughout the match as East Carolina earned straight-set wins at all six singles and all three doubles flights.

ECU rolled to a 16-0 doubles record and used a default win to garner the opening tally before following with a 60-5 singles record and another default point to close out the scoring in the 7-0 sweep.

Hannah Priest and Tamara Sachs, along with Zandy Overcash and Alex Smith, logged 8-0 tandem triumphs over WSSU's Shannon Loughnan/Johanna Nunez and Gabrielle Benjamin/Terese Lavan.

In singles play, Priest (No. 2) and Kristin Gordon (No. 5) each produced 6-0, 6-0 wins to help East Carolina cruise past the Rams in convincing fashion en route to the victory.

The Lady Rams drop to 1-14 overall with the loss while the Pirates improve to 10-0 on the season with the victory. 

WSSU returns to action on Friday, March 7, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. when they travel to Greensboro, N.C. to face UNC-Greensboro in non-conference tennis action.
