Wet Weather Doesn't Slow Lady Rams at 58th Annual FAMU Relays

March 7, 2008

TALLAHASSEE, FL - It would take more than some rainy weather to slow down the Winston-Salem State Lady Rams track & field team, Friday as the team opened the 2008 outdoor season at the 58th Annual Florida A&M Relays at the Pete Griffin Track Complex.

Though thunderstorms threatened the event, the men's and women's javelin was the only event of the day to be cancelled. The Lady Rams were the only WSSU athletes in action, Friday and finished the day with some impressive performances.

Highlighting the day was WSSU senior distance specialist Irene Jeptolo, who got the outdoor season off on the right foot winning the women's 3000m steeplechase in a time of 11:35.0. WSSU junior sprinter Wyieta Barnett finished sixth in the women's 100m dash preliminaries. She will compete in the finals of the event tomorrow.

The Rams and Lady Rams will return to action tomorrow for day two of the event.
