WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State University men's and women's track and field teams will line up against some of the best competition in the nation when they take part in the 2008 Wake Forest Open this weekend at Kentner Stadium on the campus of Wake Forest University. The meet will give WSSU hometown fans a chance to see their Rams and Lady Rams compete in their hometown and watch the team compete against over 1,400 athletes from 60 different schools and organizations.
Among the teams competing at the meet will be Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Runners-Up Georgia Tech, UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke, East Carolina,
Looking to keep up her winning ways will be WSSU senior distance runner Irene Jeptolo, who has posted back-to-back wins in the women's 3000m steeplechase to open the 2008 outdoor season. She won the event at the 58th Annual Florida A&M Relays in a time of 11:35.0, followed by winning again at the 2008 Coastal Carolina Invitational in a time of 11:19.64. She will face her toughest challenge of the season taking on the toughest competition of the season thus far. The women's 3000m steeplechase is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m., Friday evening.
The Rams and Lady Rams relay teams will also look to keep up some strong efforts this weekend as well. The WSSU men's 4x400m relay team placed second a the 2008 Coastal Carolina Invitational with a time of 3:18.34 and will need to keep up their efforts when they line up against the Wake Forest 4x400m relay team that placed second at the ACC Indoor Championships. The men's 4x400m Relay is scheduled to begin at 1:25 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am, Friday with events and continuing throughout the day. Running events are scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
