Young Lady Rams Fall to Experienced B-CC Wildcats, 3-1

Oct. 29, 2007

Final Stats

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - An offensive explosion by WSSU sophomore hitter Annika Barnwell was not enough to get the Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (4-22) past the experienced Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (7-11). Barnwell racked up a career-high 21 kills in the 3-1 loss on Friday evening. The Lady Rams battled in all four games in the match, falling by scores of 21-30, 28-30, 30-28, and 22-30.

Barnwell accounted for nearly half of the Lady Rams' total offense in the match with the team totaling 45 kills in the match. In contrast to the experienced B-CC squad, the Lady Rams were led by youngsters as freshman Ashley Harris totaled eight kills in the match while fellow freshmen Erica Cole and Georgette Allen led the WSSU defensive efforts. Cole led the Lady Rams with 12 digs in the match while Allen totaled five blocks (two solo) in the match.

The team will have little time to rest, however, as they will return to action on Saturday afternoon, taking on the Florida A&M Rattlers in a 5:00 p.m. match.
