WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (4-24) showed a lot of heart in their 3-1 loss to the Campbell Camels (11-19), but were unable to match the firepower of the CU offense. After a pair of tough losses in the first two games, 19-30 and 22-30, the Lady Rams battled back to win the third game of the match, 30-28. However, the team ran out of gas in game three, 17-30.
The loss was the eighth in a row for the Lady Rams, but the news was not all bad. Freshman Ashley Harris totaled 14 kills in the match, the second highest kill total in her career. Sophomore hitter Lore McBroom added eight kills in the match to go along with 12 digs. Both Harris and Pushkina each totaled nine digs each in the match. The match was one of the team's best defensive efforts of the season with 54 digs, the team's third highest total in digs.
The Lady Rams were outdone by a Campbell team that totaled 63 kills in the match with four players reaching double-digit kills in the match. Junior blocker Femi Alabi led the way for the Camels with 17 kills while Ashley Weers added 14. Libero Melissa Harvey led the Campbell defensive effort with 17 digs.
The loss was the eighth in a row for the Lady Rams while Campbell wins their second straight match after a Tuesday win over fellow Piedmont Triad team, North Carolina A&T. The Lady Rams will wrap up the 2008 season with a pair of road matches next week against Norfolk State and North Carolina A&T.
